Recovery of USAir 1549

I will say up front that I am a Boeing kind of guy. Give me a choice and I'll take the ride in any Boeing jet over an Airbus 100% of the time. However, sometimes you gotta give credit where t's due. This is one of those times. I saw this today and thought it was pretty neat. We've all heard and seen the story of USAir 1549 with Captain Sullenberger. He landed the Airbus A320 on the Hudson River just over a year ago. I truly believe the skill of the pilot is much more of the story, but the jet did hold up and allowed all 155 passengers to get out alive. This view is of the recovery of the jet from the water. If you've got some serious coin in your pocket the jet will be auctioned to the highest bidder soon.

Chilling USAir 1549 Audio Clips

Here is the audio of just after the birdstrikes. You can hear Captain Sullenberger call it in with a slight mistake he calls it 1539 and the ATC calls back 1529. It seems he knew they were going in the river all along. He had hope for a moment to get to a private field in NJ, but could not even make that.

USAir Flight 1549 on the Move Again

I saw these pics of USAir 1549 being moved to its new semi-permanent home in New Jersey. A warehouse where it can be further examined over the next 18 months or so. Oversize load indeed. This is not the type of thing you see everyday. An Airbus A320 being driven down the middle of the street. Reminds me a bit of the scene from the movie Second Sight where Bronson Pinchot takes control of the jet and uses his mind power to drive it down city streets. Ok Maybe not.
