Boeing 787 Takes Flight

After countless delays the Boeing 787 Dreamliner took to the air today. As I write this its still slowly circling the Puget Sound doing a litany of tests. What a great day. Enjoy this shot of the moment it lifted off with the T33 chase plane alongside. Photo from the Seattle Times.

They're pushing ahead and I'm glad. When I interviewed Randy Tinseth at Boeing a couple of years back, I asked why they didn't bring back manufacturing "in-house". At the time, they told me their view was that they are better assemblers than manufacturers. But if you look at McDonald Douglas (whom they acquired)they sure inherited yet another good manufacturer. I'm hopeful for this project! Great post Davy. Happy 2010!
