I'm Outta Here for a Week

Thats right its time to hit the road to Las Vegas. Not much gambling for me though. I will be attending the 2010 SCCA National Convention at the South Pointe. Its a nice place if you like being cooped up out in the middle of a dessert away from all the fun. I was there last year and unfortunately did not get to In & Out Burger. Not gonna happen this year as I will have access to a car. Since I'm the experienced guy going this year I will be the guide to the touristy places like Hoover Dam and the strip. I hope to get out to Nellis AFB for a few minutes to watch some fighter jet action. I am flying Delta and will be flying home for the first time on a 757-300 which is the stretched version of he 757. That means its an old Northwest jet and has no in seat entertainment either... I will bring my psp and ipod touch. Maybe even my laptop. Looks like my flight out is on a 767, but its changed 8 times since I booked it that who knows. Please turn the heat on for me!

Recovery of USAir 1549

I will say up front that I am a Boeing kind of guy. Give me a choice and I'll take the ride in any Boeing jet over an Airbus 100% of the time. However, sometimes you gotta give credit where t's due. This is one of those times. I saw this today and thought it was pretty neat. We've all heard and seen the story of USAir 1549 with Captain Sullenberger. He landed the Airbus A320 on the Hudson River just over a year ago. I truly believe the skill of the pilot is much more of the story, but the jet did hold up and allowed all 155 passengers to get out alive. This view is of the recovery of the jet from the water. If you've got some serious coin in your pocket the jet will be auctioned to the highest bidder soon.

Here we go again

Its January so that must mean its hockey tournament time again. This year the pickens are a bit slimmer. Frudoch played in Cleveland on a team of "leftovers" from the select team and as expected things did not go well. Since the boys were made up of 3 different teams and none of them really liked each other the odds were stack against them from the start. When the coaches figured out that there were 15 forwards and a goalie the script was written.... The first game was a 11-2 beatdown which caused Frudoch to ASK to play Defense for the rest of the tournament. Fru is a decent defenseman, but he loves playing any of the 3 forward positions and was probably the best winger on the team. For him to ask to play D means things were bad. And they were. The nice thing was my cousin was able to come out with my aunt and take in the game. I had not seen my aunt in nearly 15 years and it was their first hockey game. Too bad the good guys sucked.

Saturday morning dawned with an early game at Gilmour Academy and the results were similar with a 7-1 loss. Luckily for me I had to head back home for an awards banquet and my wife drove up in time for me to tell her to check out of the hotel as we were eliminated from moving on after starting 0-2. Things continued with a 6-1 loss in the afternoon. I don't know, but I think not having a team name as well as a practice probably doomed this group from the beginning....

Poppy's team was in Cleveland too, but for this event she was not on the roster. It figures as that team won the whole tournament. She joins them in Detroit in a couple weeks.... It would have been nice as her main team is 0-12-1 on the year. The 6 teams supposedly dived to be equal has produced a team with no losses and a team with no wins. That sure sounds fair huh?

In other news Mark McGuire used steroids. No really he did. He admitted it. Barry Bonds and Roger "the liar" Clemmens still deny having used them....
